Frequently Asked Questions - Portraits

What can I expect at our session?

You can expect to play, jump and giggle. Just don't expect to sit still! Our sessions spotlight your family’s personality. That’s what makes documentary photography our passion. Our photos are fresh, fun, and candid. We use photography to document the real moments of your life and tell the story of your family.

How long will my session last?

Our sessions last one to two hours. We are sensitive to infants and take plenty of breaks for feedings and diaper changes. On the other hand, older children can have a blast taking photos; as long as your children are enjoying themselves, we will keep shooting.

How far in advance should I book my session?

Our weekends fill up fast. Be sure to contact us immediately to secure a weekend session. We recommend booking no later than three weeks in advance for a weekday session.

The best time to secure a newborn session is the second trimester of your pregnancy. Newborn sessions should ideally take place within ten days following the birth. Let us know your estimated due date when you book your session. When your little one makes his or her entrance contact us as soon as possible after the birth, and we will finalize the date of your session.

What should we wear?

Bright colors, simple patterns, and textured fabrics work best. Colorful knit hats and diaper covers are all you need for newborns. Avoid logos and intricate patterns to keep the focus on you and your children. There will be time for outfit changes, so be sure to have several choices on hand.

Where is the best location for our session?

The best spot for your session is near your home, where you and your children are relaxed and comfortable. We photograph newborns and infants indoors. A room with big windows and natural light works best. Your yard or a nearby park will work well for older children. There are also wonderful locations in the DC/Baltimore area, and we will work with you to pick the best locale.

How many photos do you take?

You will receive about 50 images after your family portrait session.

When will I get to see my photos?

Check our blog after your shoot for a sneak peek of your photos.

Your proofs will be posted for online viewing four weeks after your session and remain online for two weeks.
